Setting up Netscape 2.0

From your DNLOAD directory, double click on Setup. This will launch the Netscape 2.0 Setup Screen.

Screen 1 Netscape is going to ask a few simple questions. First, it will scan your system for any previous version of Netscape. You'll get a screen that warns you to quit any other windows programs before continuing. Use the ALT and TAB keys to switch between any programs you have running and shut them down. Click Next.

Screen 2 The next screen gives you two choices - to overwrite your old Netscape.ini file or to use your old Netscape.ini file. It defaults to use your old ini file. This option saves all of your preferences. Click Next.

Screen 3 Your next option is where to install your new Netscape files. It automatically detects where your previous Netscape resides, and offers that as the directory to install the updated files. If you wish to install the program to a different directory, click on Browse and select the new directory. If you choose a different directory, you will have to do some extra configuring to get it to work properly. My suggestion is to let Netscape install in the old directory. Click Next.

Screen 4 Now, Netscape asks where to place the Netscape 2.0 Icons. It will automatically create a new program group for you if you wish, but I suggest that you scroll down the program group list and select the Netscape Personal Edition program group. All of the Icons will be installed to this program group. Click Next

Screen 5 Netscape asks you if you would like to view the Read Me file. The Read Me file contains all of the information that wasn't available in the on-line handbook. It is always available to you in the Personal Edition program group. You can read it now or later -- the choice is yours. Click Finish.

Screen 6 The final Setup screen asks if you want to connect to the Netscape Setup Site to finish your setup. Click No. (The site still isn't ready.)

There. You've done it.

You've installed the latest version of Netscape Navigator! There's one thing left to do. Close all of your applications and restart Windows. This will make sure that all of the changes you made during setup take effect.

Now that you're an expert...
