The tool that allows you to lurk (monitor the messages of others without ever actually posting your own), flame (harshly remonstrate those of inferior intelligence), spam (inundate a large number of newsgroups with advertisements thinly disguised as news postings), and more is called a newsreader. Newsreaders allow you to read and post messages to the various newsgroups that can be accessed through the UseNET network. Newsreaders are available with a variety of features and interfaces; your best bet is try them all and pick the one you're most comfortable with.
